Alex Chilton Remembered

Earlier today, I got the now traditional call from EJ where we try to make sense of the tragic loss of a Memphis music icon. This time it was Alex Chilton, dead of a presumed heart attack, days before he and his Big Star bandmates were to be given a hero's welcome at the South by Southwest music festival.

60 Seconds with Hardface

Elliott "Hardface" Nelson has dedicated his life to write, produce and perform art at its purest, undiluted form.  Hardface delivers brutally honest lyrical acrobatics laced with cynical, humor and creativity to elaborately keep the listeners anticipating each word.  Combining the stage presence of spoken word and standup comedy, with the cunning of a pimp, the soul of a philosopher and the intensity of a Baptist preacher, he delivers spine tingling and mind-blowing lyrics delivering a riveting and unforgettable performance the crowd is sure to enjoy.

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of Alex Chilton. Memphis has suffered an incalculable loss. We at Live From Memphis extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends, and express our hope that he has found peace.

The Wiseguys Present Storytellers Unplugged

This Friday (March 19), the memphian improve comedy troupe The Wiseguys bring a long form improv show that is new and unique to the area. A variation of Upright Citizens Brigade's "Asssscat", The Wiseguys' Storytellers Unplugged has the Full Moon Club roaring with laughter every show.

The Wiseguys bring on guest storytellers and work their improv magic based on those stories. It's a great night of improv, stories, and fun.
Special guest storytellers scheduled to appear at this show include Big Funny Productions' Sammy Marten and Katrina Murrell

Admission is $5.

ArtsMemphisTV presents Frank D. Robinson Jr.

Frank D. Robinson Jr. is an artist living a working in Memphis.  Although he has spent time all over America - Studying art at the Art Institute of Chicago, and showing in cities from New York to New Orleans, Memphis will always be his home.

Frank D. works in various mediums - paint, pencil, markers, found objects (or "trash" as he lovingly refers to it) - with one goal, to create.  Whether it's a six-foot-tall painting of "Thug Jesus" or a t-shirt design for breast cancer, Frank D. is always creating.  His work seeks to inspire through the everyday - by using found objects, and common language, Frank D. is able to touch people on a base level, expressing to them his concerns, his passions, his humanity.

Currently Frank D. is the artist-in-residence at Caritas Village , where he has a studio and occasionally teaches classes.  If you ever in the neighborhood, stop by and check out some of his work - it's everywhere!
