This clip is Paul Taylor laying down a loop for us. We used the song for his Flipside, but covered it up with b-roll and his interview. If you haven't realized how badass of a musician Paul Taylor is from that Flipside or even from seeing him play live, this clip will blow your mind. He is a technical master at the drums, and his bass playing is like smothering warm butter all over your chest (that's a good thing).

The 12th OUTFLIX Film Festival gets underway Friday with—a musical!
And not just any musical but a big, gay one entitled The Big Gay Musical, described by the filmmakers as a "hilarious story that mixes backstage drama, conservative religious families, coming out, coming to terms, and the occasional tap dancing angel!" Not only is The Big Gay Musical kicking off OUTFLIX, but the film is also making its New York premiere that same night. It's a testament to the increasing popularity and importance of OUTFLIX that the festival is bringing in gay and lesbian themed films with lots of buzz. |

Congratulations to GB Shannon and the crew of "Que Sera, Sivad" for their extraordinary win of Li'l Film Fest 13: Beware the Sivads of March. Shannon took home both the "Jury Award" and the "Audience Choice Award" for a total prize package of $1490.00!!

The festival was great and we screened so many awesome films! Thanks so much to all the filmmakers, everyone who came out to support them, and especially to our partners and sponsors (click on their logos to learn more about all the cool stuff they do!) - this could not happen without your support!
Honorable Mentions "Horror Host" directed by Mike McCarthy - Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design "Sometimes" directed by Andy Bond - Best Editing "Once Upon a Time in Memphis" directed by Joey Thorsen - Best Adherence to Theme "Terror Tube" directed by Craig Morris - Best Acting (to Valerie O. Morris) "It's Not a Waste of Time" directed by Adam Remsen - Best Line of the Fest - (To P.F. Changs - "Your food is a disgrace to the people of China!" "Mystery Meat" directed by Harmony Stewart - Best (and most repulsive) Use of Alliterations.

Special thanks to our Jury for their time, participation, and dedication to this festival! Kyle McKinnon helps program the Sidewalk Fest in Birmingham. He's also made soundtrack music for a small handful of movies that very few people have heard of. More than anything, he enjoys making bonfires and believes that Memphis' own Andrew Earles is a national treasure. Alex Orr directed the feature film BLOOD CAR, which screened at Indie Memphis in 2007. He is currently working as a gypsy for television. John Hudgens recently released AMERICAN SCARY, a feature documentary about classic TV horror hosts, and is also known for his Lucasfilm-approved STAR WARS parody films. He is currently in production on BACKYARD BLOCKBUSTERS, a documentary about fanfilms and fan filmmakers.
Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank all of our volunteers who help make this event happen - Shelly Gillette, Chris McCoy, Mackenzie Stonis, Harmony Stewart - you guys rock (as if you didn't already know...)
Stay tuned... Li'l Film Fest 14 coming soon!!! |

Lynne Sachs's “The Last Happy Day” opens with a scene of children stuffing pillows under their shirts to play Winnie the Pooh. We're told that in 1977, Sachs's brother played Pooh in a school play in Memphis. Before showtime, their Hungarian father gave the boy a copy of Winnie the Pooh in Latin, and told them it had been translated by his brother, Sandor. This was the first mention the kids had heard of Uncle Sandor.

And in this corner, he is the master of piledrivers and paints, a pro at pen & ink along with the diving fist drop, hailing from Memphis, Tennessee he is Jerry "The King" Lawler!
*Crowd Roar*
It's hard to imagine that hands used to punch, grapple, and slam could also create such amazing artistic works.
The King has been drawing sketches long before he was drawing crowds. A proficient artist and overall art enthusiast, Jerry's comics, paintings, and caricatures have been a true calling to him.
His greatest wish? To draw a Superman cover for DC Comics. Will Superman be hiding in the corner only to turn and throw a fireball at Lex Luthor? Only time will tell.

I’ve never had much of a sweet tooth; salty and savory have always been my preference. So when I sat down for my first listen to the Magic Kids debut Memphis, my taste buds revolted and my body went into insulin shock. The album opens with “Phone”, a nostalgic blast of sunshine that blew up my skirt like a Day-Glo suppository. Reminiscent of Herman’s Hermits “I’m Into Something Good”, all the sudden I was frolicking on the beach with Priscilla Presley like I was Leslie Neilson in love. It set the tone for an album that is brimming with bouncy, antiquated themes but with all the nutrients of high fructose corn syrup.

On my way to the HiTone Friday night for an evening of rocking for love of the Church Health Center, I was admittedly a little concerned that all the rocking and all the love would be outdone by the sweating and the being-sweated-on, and also that I might end up at the Church Health Center before the weekend was over.
