Album Review: Black Rock Revival - Mission Control

Talented rock trio Black Rock Revival recently released their second CD Mission Control, a follow-up to their 2010 debut CD, Keep It Together.
Mission Control is twelve furious tracks that showcase the cohesiveness and abilities of frontman/guitarist Sebastian Banks, bassist Percy “Blue” Mitchell and drummer Hype. Black Rock Revival rock hard and take no prisoners. Imagine that your favorite local band cut an album with some of the best production money can buy without becoming watered down or “pop” in the process. Black Rock Revival is that band, and Mission Control is that record. If this album is any indication, this band is clearly ready to “blast off” and bring their sound to venues all across the country.
The album was recorded at Archer Studios, resulting in an improvement in production values over their previous outing. Mission Control also shows the growth in the band and proves that Black Rock Revival is worthy of further exposure.
The title track, “Mission Control”, is a head-nodding track with an extremely funky bass line. Guitarist/lead vocalist Sebastian confronts a lover who has been lying to him: “Before I leave, before I fly/Give you one more chance to lie/Look me right straight in the eye/And give me one more alibi”. In the addictive rock anthem “Devil Comes To Town” Sebastian warns “You know the Devil is come to town/And she is making her rounds”. The band really cuts loose on “Stick Another Foot In It” and “Lola Falana”, and “Keep It Together”, the catchy title cut from their last album, resurfaces on this album as well.
Black Rock Revival will be performing on the rooftop of Playhouse On the Square as part of the Indie Memphis Film Festival on Friday, November 4, at 11:00 PM. The film documenting the making of Mission Control, will screen on Saturday, November 5, at 4:30 PM at Studio On the Square.
