Album Review: Jason Da Hater-Enough Hate to Go Around

Rapper/schoolteacher Jason “Da Hater” Harris continues his honest, lighthearted, yet heartfelt lyricism on his new record.

On “Random Chatter” Da Hater declares “I’m slept on, like many beds that’s in the Hilton/But you ain’t gotta say a word like Charlie Wilson”. On “Pants”, Jason talks about the seemingly never-ending trend of young men wearing sagging jeans that exposes their underwater: “It’s so crazy, how it’s so prevalent/Embarrassing your race, disgracing your President”. Later, on “She Goin”, Jason attempts to have a parent/teacher conference with a woman about her daughter’s sexual activity only to discover that her mom is also promiscuous: “Out of the blue, she started acting different/I noticed that her clothes were tight and really fitted”. The album's standout track, “Still Hating” finds Da Hater in rare form, calling out people on their foolishness: “Say I’m hating, but I care enough to tell the truth/Unlike your partners who be hanging out and gassing you”. “Hater Go Hard” continues Da Hater’s verbal assault on stupidity: “Going ham, I’m ‘bout my hog killing/I’m vicious with the pen, ain’t worried what y'all felling”.

On Enough Hate To Go Around's twelve tracks, Jason Da Hater reinforces his common sense, everyman image with hilarious, sarcastic rhymes. As always, there is a method to his hating ways. Da Hater is a one-man war on foolishness and ignorance, but he still shows concern, similar to an older brother or that young, hip teacher who was cool enough to know the latest songs but still old enough to teach you right from wrong. This album is a much-needed class on decency. Hopefully, some of the youth in this city will hear this album and learn from this hip-hop teacher.
