Memphis Record Shop and Label Announces Lineup for Fall Festival
Goner Records has announced the lineup for its fifth annual music festival, which will take place September 25-28, 2008 in Memphis, TN. Goner Fest 5 will include three evening showcases at the Hi-Tone, a Saturday afternoon two-stage concert at Murphy's, opening and closing shows at the Goner Record Shop, and various day shows and art shows throughout the weekend.
Highlights of this year's event include San Francisco noise duo Sic Alps, Memphis' punk prince Jay Reatard, Michigan angular Anglicans TVK (formerly Tyvek), Fred and Toody Cole of Dead Moon's new venture Pierced Arrows, and Rough Trade throwbacks Vivian Girls. Other bands on the bill include The Intelligence, Eat Skull, Cheap Time, Australia's Ooga Boogas, Jack Oblivian & The Tearjerkers, Jeffrey Evans & His Southern Aces, The Barbaras, France's Crusaders Of Love, Denmark's Cola Freaks, Dan Melchior, Psychedelic Horseshit, England's Black Time, Box Elders, Mouserocket and Thee Oh Sees. Goner Fest 5 will be MC'd by Memphis icon Ross Johnson.
This year's event will also feature a photography exhibit from San Francisco photographer Geoffrey Ellis.
The festival will bring together 35 bands from three continents for four days of rock and roll mayhem. Attendance for Goner Fest 5 is anticipated to top 2500 people for the weekend; more than half of whom will be coming from outside of Memphis. The first four Goner festivals have attracted rock and roll fans from Austria, Australia, Japan, Germany, Italy, Holland, France, UK, Croatia and Canada.
Festivities begin informally Wednesday, September 24 with a free ping-pong tournament at the Hi-Tone.

Goner Records has finalized the lineup for their third annual music festival, which will take place in Memphis, TN September 28-30, 2006. Goner Fest 3 will include three main evening showcases at the Hi-Tone, a Saturday afternoon of music at the Buccaneer Lounge, and additional opening and closing shows at Goner Records.
"We’ve been working on this off and on since the beginning of the year," said Goner co-owner Eric Friedl. "We’ve got bands coming in from all over the world. It’s pretty exciting.”
As always, the festival will blend Memphis and New Orleans favorites with new acts from all over. This year’s highlights include a rare appearance from Big Easy frat rock kings The Royal Pendletons, French synth/DIY newcomers Cheveu, Canadian panic rock duo The Leather Uppers and London teenage garage sensations The Hipshakes. The fest will also mark the debut of Memphis legend Jack Oblivian’s new solo outfit, and a return home for the angular garage pop sounds of Memphis’ Viva l’American Deathray Music.
Goner Fest 3 will also feature what is already being called “the greatest Sun Studio Tours ever given.” A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour Sun Studios with Memphis rock and roll legends Msr. Jeffrey Evans and Ross Johnson will happen twice on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 12 and 1 pm.
Attendance for Goner Fest 3 is anticipated to be over 1000 people for the weekend; as many as half of whom will be coming in from outside of Memphis to take part.
Goner Records will release two new singles for the festival, from The Hipshakes and Chicago high-end warriors Cococoma. Goner will also release a limited reissue pressing of The Leather Uppers self-titled LP, originally issued on Pantsuit City Records in 2002.
The Gonerfest 2 DVD/CD, produced by Goner Records, Live from Memphis and Rocket Science Audio, is also slated to make an appearance at the festival in
